Kenneth Paul Ketterman, 101, of Griggsville, Illinois, entered into eternal rest on Sunday. September 13, 2015. He was born June 22, 1914, in Urbana, Iowa to Edwin and Edith Pratt Ketterman. He married Mae Louis Etters on September 5, 1945 in Harvey, Illinois and she preceded him in death in 2013.
Surviving Mr. Ketterman are his three sons, Terry of South Carolina, Doug (Cynde) of Astoria, Illinois and Greg (Sheri) of Griggsville, Illinois; and a daughter, Mary Beth Ketterman of, Illinois. He is also survived by grandchildren , David McBurney, Douglas McBurney, Tonya Ketterman Price, William McBurney, Melissa Ketterman Kiger, Justin D. Ketterman, Jared Ketterman, Joshua Ketterman, Jason Ketterman, Justin K. Ketterman, and Ashley Ketterman, as well as several great grandchildren and special nieces Edith Garberding and Betty Melton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brothers James, Joseph, and Edwin Jr.
After high school Paul joined the Marines and served his country. He spent several years on the USS Arizona as the Admirals assistant before it was sent to the Island of Hawaii. After an honorable discharge from the Marines Paul went home and married the love of his life, Mae. He began working for the Dean Milk Company as a field inspector. For many years he had a lumberyard that he owned and managed jointly with his brothers. He later worked for ten years at the Homewood-Flossmore Park District before retiring.
Paul was very active in his community. He was a Volunteer Fireman for the Oak Forest Fire Department for more than 20 years. He was a Mason and a charter member of several Baptist churches throughout the years. He most recently served at the Heritage Baptist Church as a deacon and an usher. His involvement in the church was very important to him.
In addition to volunteering and serving at the church, Paul loved doing puzzles, woodworking, and baking. His favorite pastime for the past several years was fishing. He enjoyed sitting on the back deck of his home and casting the rod. His favorite times spent fishing were when his children or grandchildren were sharing this pastime with him. Paul loved his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17 from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 at Gerardi Funeral Home. Interment immediately following, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Family requests memorials to the Heritage Baptist Church Youth, Frankfort, IL
